Hand Painted Kitchen, Huddersfield

Hand Painted Kitchen, Huddersfield.

Here is my latest kitchen painting project.

As you can see, it was from scratch. The doors were made from MDF and tulipwood.

Perfectly Painted in French Grey Mid.

This kitchen was supplied by Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch.

The carcasses were also made of tulipwood with MDF tongue and groove style end panels.

The interior carcasses and shelves were real oak veneer.

A kitchen like this has to have its’s interiors varnishing to avoid any staining of the wood effect.

For this I applied 2 coats of Kiva 30 by Tikkurila.

This gives an extremely tough barrier from those heavy pots and pans!

The kitchen was then ready to receive the prime coats.

All the doors and drawers were taken off and taken to my workshop.

As this was a kitchen with mixed materials, the best option was to use an oil based primer mixed to the colour of the top coats.

Oil primer goes well with MDF as it does not expand it and raise fibers and sands down great.

Once the kitchen was primed, it was sanded down with 320 grit profile sanding pads to make it super smooth.

It was then given two top coats of eggshell finish, rubbed down between coats.

The in situ areas were all masked off to ensure no paint got onto where it didn’t belong.

So once the doors and drawers went back on, the masking came off.

The utility room was also painted at the same time of the kitchen.

There were also additional pieces of furniture which were matched up with the existing paint colours of the new kitchen and utility.

The result, as you can see, is stunning!

There’s nothing more satisfying to see a hand painted kitchen transform like this and turn into a real thing of beauty!

This kitchen was hand painted of course. However, I spray paint too depending on type of kitchen and personal preferance to what kind of finish.
